Bazi and Life: The Script is Already Written, But You Are the Director

Yesterday, a friend asked me, “If you read someone’s Bazi in advance, is it like reading the script of their life? Would you unconsciously follow the path laid out by the Bazi?”

I smiled and asked her in return, “Do you think that if you don’t read your Bazi, destiny won’t unfold?”

This reminded me of a colleague of mine. He never looked at his own Bazi, always believing that “what you don’t know won’t happen.” But just last month, he was suddenly diagnosed with cancer. At that moment, he regretted it—if he had known earlier, perhaps he would have taken better care of his health, bought insurance, or learned more about cancer treatments.

Bazi is like a weather forecast. Knowing it will rain tomorrow, you bring an umbrella; knowing a typhoon is coming, you reinforce your windows. But this doesn’t mean you “created” the rain or “summoned” the typhoon.

Fate gives us a map, not a one-way road. Bazi tells us where the mountains and rivers are, but whether we choose to climb the mountain or cross the river, take the main road or a shortcut, the decision is always ours.

Someone once asked, “If we know our fate in advance, wouldn’t that take away the surprises in life?”

I replied, “Knowing that a flower will bloom doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the process of it blooming; knowing the moon has its phases doesn’t mean you can’t savor every moment of its light.”

Bazi is not a shackle, but a guiding light. It illuminates the path ahead, but the steps we take are always our own.
